Benner's Garden Fence Kits

Here, you'll find all of our Benner's garden fence kits separated by type. As you know, there are many different types of gardens and garden fence kit projects. We offer many different types of garden fence kits designed for all kinds of gardens.

For example:

  • Concerned with chewing animals? Choose a garden fence kit with chew guard or an all metal garden fence kit. Most of the animals that want to eat your plants have sharp teeth. Note: deer do not chew and it's common to use poly fence as the top layer of your garden fence kit, paired with a smaller opening size metal fence 1x1 or 1/2x1/2 on the bottom.
  • Concerned with digging animals or do you have uneven sloped terrain where the fence will be installed? Choose a garden fence kit with overlap. Overlap refers to extra fencing in a garden fence kit (poly or metal) that overlaps onto the ground and is pinned/staked to the ground to prevent animals from going under. This overlap amount is usually 6 inches but some customers go with more.
  • Do you need to have your garden fence portable, temporary or removable? Try a garden fence kit without a chew guard or overlap or without tensioning.
  • Concerned with climbing animals? Take a look at our Anti-Climb garden fence kits or fence kits with a top.
  • Worried about birds getting at your berries or vegetables? Only our garden fence kits with a top will help with birds.
  • Have an existing fence you need to make higher? We have existing fence add on kits to make your existing fence higher to keep out deer - for example, an existing wooden 3 rail fence surrounds your garden - use an extend up fence kit to make it higher to keep out deer.

Some other notes on garden fence kits:

A garden fence kit is a selection of fence materials bundled together to build a complete fence starting from nothing. Most kits include fence posts, garden fencing itself (one or two layers depending on what you choose), ground sleeves (ground sleeves are a way to install posts without concrete), a driving anvil tool (used to install ground sleeves), fence ties to attach fence to fence or fence to fence posts and lastly warning banners (warning banners install on the completed fence to let animals know there is a fence there now).
Things not included with garden fence kits: add ons - there are a number of additional side items that can be added. For example, access gates - it would not make sense for us to add an access gate with every fence kit - not every customer needs one (they are installing a fence against a building or barn using it's door for access, for example) or not every customer needs the same width gate - popular are 5ft wide person width gates but some customers need larger tractor or vehicle access gates. Other examples include corner posts, end posts and installation tools. All of these can be added if you choose to the fence kit. Garden Fence Kit Frequently Asked Questions

What is a garden fence kit?

A garden fence kit is a bundle of fence parts that when assembled creates a garden fence starting from nothing. Common parts include: fence posts, garden fencing, hardware to attach fencing to posts and ground stakes to pin the base of the fence to the ground (to prevent animals from going under the fence).

How is this type of fencing different from other garden fences or garden fence kits?

We specialize in fences to keep animals in or out. Our fence kits (depending on the options you choose) include garden fence post ground sleeves that have a set screw. Once the sleeves are installed in the ground, our round tubular posts slide into the ground sleeves and lock in with a set screw. This makes the garden fence kit permanent or removable (useful for temporary garden fences – fence is up during the growing season and taken down otherwise, leaving space to till the ground etc). Our fence kits are very customizable – different opening sizes, heights, lengths etc.
Are garden fence kits expensive?
No. You will find that our do it yourself DIY garden fence kits are much less expensive than conventional fencing (stockade, chain link, aluminum) and very customizable. Vast areas can be fenced in for a low cost per linear foot depending on the options you choose.

What is the best garden fence kit?

The best garden fence kit effectively keeps out all the animals you are trying to stop from eating your plants. This varies greatly depending on the types of plants and the types of animals in your area. For example, 2x2 opening size fence is great for excluding deer – but – rabbits can push through and needs a 1x1 opening size (at least on the bottom, rabbits don’t climb).

What are the best garden fence kits for 2024?

The best and most common metal garden fence for 2024 (compared to traditional, older garden fence types) is a 2x2 opening size tall fence to exclude deer in poly or metal paired with a 1x1 or 1/2x1/2 36 inch bottom wire. This allows for a 30 inch tall garden rodent barrier with 6 inches of overlap on the ground, pinned to the ground facing outwards. This deters animals from digging up under the fence for access.
