How Hard is it to Install Your Deer Fence with a Metal Fence Kit?

Are deer eating too much of your landscaping? You need to consider a deterrent, like a deer fence. If deer and they haven’t been a problem, yet, then getting a deer fence is a smart move. Deer are going to show up on your rural property and start grazing sooner or later. You can hire a company to set up a deer fence or you can buy a metal fence kit and install it yourself. It isn’t that hard, and the alternatives to a deer fence aren’t always good. Poly fences are effective and don’t ruin the owner’s view of the surrounding landscape.

What Are the Alternatives to Deer Fencing?

Yes, but they may not work as well as you’d like. Do a quick web search and you’ll find lots of information about plants and deer deterrents. “Home remedies” to keep deer away include human hair, wind chimes, dish soap, and coffee grounds. The idea is that unfamiliar noises, in the case of wind chimes, and strong smells will encourage deer to forage elsewhere. This might work until the deer realize the wind chimes can’t hurt them and food gets scarce.

Deer will eat almost anything in a pinch. Even if they absolutely will not eat a plant they meet eat ornamental plants that grow nearby. Store-bought deterrents wear off and have to be reapplied.  Poly fences are a better option in areas with a significant deer population. Poly fences don’t have any of those problems.

A Metal Fence Kit Solves the Problem

You can save plenty of money by purchasing a metal fence kit. We offer several options to suit jobs of different sizes. We also have the installation tools and accessories you need, plus access gates.  The 1” hex fence material also preserves the aesthetics of your surroundings.

The main question you probably have about one of these kits is this: How long will it take to install one? The answer depends on three things:

  1. How much fencing do you need?
  2. Do you need an access gate or other accessories?

The next question you’ll have is this: How hard is it to install one of these wire fence kits? Installation isn’t that difficult. You don’t even need much DIY knowledge or experience because we have instructions on our website. And, no surprise here, there are plenty of instructional videos on YouTube.

If you have a small backyard and don’t need to add a gate, you could probably work with a friend and do the job in a day. If you need 500’ feet, plus a gate, a weekend won’t be enough. The effort will be worthwhile though.

If you’re using a poly fence, consider adding a rodent barrier at the same time. This metal hex will create a barrier that keeps smaller rodents away who might otherwise chew through the fence or even squeeze through it. These barriers are easy to add to existing poly fences. All you do is unroll the steel 2’ high mesh roll and secure it to the bottom of your poly fence using zip ties or hog rings.
